WHAT TYPE OF INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT FROM YOU?

- Information that you provide by filling in forms on our website www.research-tree.com (our Website) or on third-party websites that embed our content feeds. This information includes your name and email address.

HOW DO WE USE YOUR PERSONAL DATA?
WE WILL NEVER PASS YOUR DETAILS ON TO THIRD PARTIES FOR THEIR MARKETING PURPOSES.
We use information held about you in the following ways:
- to carry out our obligations arising from any contracts entered into between you and us;
- to provide you with information, products or services that you request from us or which we feel may interest you, where you have consented to be contacted for such purposes;
- to ensure that content from our Website is presented in the most effective manner for you and for your computer; and
- to notify you about changes to our service.
We may use your data to provide you with information about goods and services which may be of interest to you and we may contact you about these. We may also permit selected third party partners, such as our content providers, to use your data for analytical purposes.
LAWFUL BASES FOR PROCESSING
We rely on the following lawful bases under the UK GDPR:
- Contract: to provide the services you have signed up for and to manage your account.
- Legitimate interests: to run, personalise and improve our service, to keep our systems secure, and to carry out direct marketing (see "Legitimate Interests" below).
- Consent: where required, for example for non-essential cookies and certain types of marketing.
- Legal obligation: where we are required to keep records or share information to comply with applicable law or regulatory requirements.
EMBEDDED CONTENT FEEDS ON THIRD-PARTY WEBSITES
We power research and content feeds that are embedded on websites operated by third parties, for example the websites of listed companies or research providers. Where you access content through one of these feeds, you may be asked to provide your email address so that we can create a Research Tree account for you and give you continued access to the content.
We collect this information for two reasons:
- to create and manage your Research Tree account under our contract with you; and
- because some content on our platform is produced by FCA-regulated research providers who are required, under MiFID II and other applicable regulations, to keep records of who their research is distributed to.
Where this applies, we share your email and basic usage information with the relevant content provider so that the provider can meet those regulatory obligations. The content provider acts as an independent controller of your data for its own regulatory record-keeping and for any communications it sends you directly. Each provider's own privacy policy governs its use of your data once shared. We will identify the relevant provider at the point of sign-up.
DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION
WE WILL NEVER PASS YOUR DETAILS ON TO THIRD PARTIES FOR THEIR MARKETING PURPOSES.
We may disclose your personal information to any member of our group, which means our subsidiaries, our ultimate holding company and its subsidiaries, as defined in section 1159 of the Companies Act 2006.

- our affiliates or professional advisers;
- persons or organisations who work on our behalf to provide a product or a service to you;
- companies which perform marketing services on our behalf or with whom we have joint marketing agreements;

- Research Tree Ltd or substantially all of its assets are acquired by a third party, in which case personal data held by us about our customers will be one of the transferred assets;

A cookie is a file containing an identifier (a string of letters and numbers) that is sent by a web server to a web browser and is stored by the browser. The identifier is then sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server.
Cookies may be either "persistent" cookies or "session" cookies: a persistent cookie will be stored by a web browser and will remain valid until its set expiry date, unless deleted by the user before the expiry date; a session cookie, on the other hand, will expire at the end of the user session, when the web browser is closed.
The cookies we use fall into two categories:
Strictly necessary cookies (set without consent):

- ARRAffinity: set by sites run on Microsoft Azure, used for load balancing to keep a visitor's requests on the same server during a browsing session. Session.
- __RequestVerificationToken: anti-forgery cookie set by web applications built using ASP.NET MVC, designed to prevent Cross-Site Request Forgery. Holds no information about the user and is destroyed on closing the browser. Session.
- Third-party login provider cookies (Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn and similar): allow the application to temporarily store information about a user logging in with a third-party provider. Session.
Performance and analytics cookies (set only with your consent):
- ai_user: used by Azure Application Insights to detect issues, diagnose crashes and track usage in the web application. Persistent.
- Google Analytics _ga: helps us understand how visitors use our site. We use the information to compile reports and to help us improve the site. Collects anonymous information on visitor numbers, traffic sources and pages visited. Persistent (up to two years). To opt out of Google Analytics: http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
HOW TO MANAGE YOUR COOKIES
You can manage or block cookies through your browser's settings, and you can delete cookies already stored on your computer. The website www.aboutcookies.org has up-to-date instructions for all major browsers. Please note that blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the Website from working properly.

LEGITIMATE INTERESTS
Under UK data protection law we have a number of lawful reasons that we can use (or "process") your personal information. One of the lawful reasons is called "legitimate interests".
Broadly speaking, legitimate interests means that we can process your personal information if:
- we have a genuine and legitimate reason; and
- we are not harming any of your rights and interests.
So, what does this mean? When you provide your personal details to us we use your information for our legitimate business interests to carry out our work providing you with research, company news, video interviews and relevant financial information. Before doing this, though, we will carefully consider and balance any potential impact on you and your rights.
Some typical examples of when we might use this approach are for direct marketing, maintaining the security of our system, data analytics, improving our services, identifying usage trends, determining the effectiveness of our campaigns, and preventing fraud.

Research Tree will use various ways to achieve our mission and to support our objectives. We will process the personal information you have supplied to us to conduct and manage our business, to give you the most appropriate marketing, information, service and products, and to provide the best and most secure experience. These are what we consider to be our 'Legitimate Interests'.
Our interests
The following are some examples of when and why we would use this approach in our work:

- Personalisation: where the processing allows us to modify, personalise or otherwise improve our services and communications for the benefit of our users.
- Analytics: to process your personal information for the purposes of customer analysis, assessment, profiling and direct marketing, on a personalised or aggregated basis, to help us with our activities and to provide you with the most relevant information as long as this does not harm any of your rights and interests.
- Research: to determine the effectiveness of promotional campaigns and advertising and to develop our products, services, systems and relationships with you.
- Due diligence: we may conduct investigations on supporters, potential customers and business partners to determine if those companies and individuals have been involved or convicted of offences such as fraud, bribery and corruption.
We will also hold information about you so that we can respect your preferences for being contacted by us.
Your interests
When we process your personal information for our legitimate interests, we will consider and balance any potential impact on you and your rights under data protection and any other relevant law.
