Lufthansa has decided not to acquire Niki, a subsidiary of Air Berlin. According to Lufthansa, the EU cartel office has given indications that it will not allow the German carrier to increase its market position further. Consequently, Niki has applied for bankruptcy procedures. It remains to be seen whether other investors (including founder Niki Lauda) will jump in.
