It seems as if Etihad is terminating or at least reducing its financial support for Air Berlin in which it controls some 30% of the shares. Based on speculations, Lufthansa (via its Eurowings budget brand) and TUI fly will take over more of Air Berlin’s slots and jets. Whether this will eventually result in the extinction of Air Berlin remains to be seen but it is more likely that Air Berlin will exclusively serve as a feeder of passengers to Etihad’s hub in Abu Dhabi.
