Promising results for M&G in H1 23. The new CEO, Andrea Rossi, continues to execute the company’s new strategy, and we have confidence that he is positioning M&G to surpass its financial targets for the 2022-24 plan. The H1 23 operating capital generation results significantly outperformed expectations, exceeding the consensus by more than 50%. This substantial capital accumulation is poised to deliver strong returns to shareholders, rewarding them for their patience during this transitional per

M&G’s FY 22 results were strong. It was also the opportunity for new CEO Andrea Rossi to depict clearly his strategy for the upcoming months. While the impetus is clear and the objectives are ambitious, we rather believe in a structural improvement of the business (driven by the higher rates environment) than a commercial one.
Asset managers had a poor 2022: the S&P Composite 1500 Asset Management Index was down 22% and, according to the Investment Company Institute (ICI), worldwide mutual funds fell by 20%, from $76tr to $60tr. When bond and equity markets fall, the results are unlikely to be pretty: with revenues trending down and multiples contracting, there is a double whammy to contend with. So how do valuations shape up now, after a bullish start to the new year? The first chart is my favourite chart of asset m

Great results posted by M&G, which recorded very resilient AUMs. The firm managed to outperform the consensus despite the tough environment. While the management avoided any capital plans comments, the resilient solvency position leaves great prospects while the current share buyback is still far from being completed.
M&G’s results are correct. In fact, the firm has delivered an acceptable operating performance incorporating a tough first half of 2021 but a much better second half of the year. The capital generation remained satisfying, yielding a dividend broadly in line with consensus’ expectations but, above everything, a much-appreciated share buy-back programme of £500m.

A disappointing earnings release coupled with low transparency on the Sandringham Financial Partners acquisition have led M&G’s share price to return to its pre-crisis level. While our valuation suggests a positive recommendation considering the low point, momentum remains uncertain.
M&G posted an adjusted operating profit before tax of £788m and an IFRS profit after tax of £1,142m. AuM reached £367bn and capital generation reached £995m. The Solvency II ratio stood at 182%. The proposed final dividend is 12.23p per share. The insurer confirmed its targets for 2022, mainly cost savings of £145m and £2.2bn of cumulative capital generation. The released performance was better than consensus and our figures will be adjusted up.
The positive market movements (£19.5bn) offset the net outflows of £1.3bn. The adjusted operating profit before tax reached £1,149m, down 21.9% yoy. The insurer benefited less from longevity assumption changes (£126m vs. £441m in 2018) in the Heritage business and the lower Asset Management fees margin (38bp vs. 40 bp in 2018) in the Savings and Asset Management one. The current context has led to a decrease in the Solvency II ratio by 10%, but the capital position remains resilient at 166%.
The demerger of Prudential has given birth to the third largest UK asset manager, M&G plc. With an important book of Life insurance products, mainly in its Heritage business unit, M&G should be able to cope with the low interest rates context. However, the company should benefit from the slow run-off profile of its business to generate stable operating earnings and cash flows. The focus will be given to Asian and US growth. We begin our coverage with an Add opinion.

FY 2023 was a challenging year for Frenkel with higher interest rates encouraging clients to place money into lower margin money market funds. Despite this, sales grew +32% (supported by recurring revenue +9% and +51% in non-recurring), EBIT margins remained strong at 22% and adj. EPS grew +17% (taking into account the higher number of shares). FY 2024 has seen a solid start to transactional business and there is a strong pipeline of new FUM opportunities both of which support further growth. Wi

S&U reported FY24 PBT of £33.6m, down from £41.4m in FY23 on higher funding and regulatory costs and higher impairments in Advantage in H2. PBT was 2% ahead of our forecast as stronger revenues – up 12% to £115.4m – and better costs offset higher-than-expected impairments. Net receivables grew to a record at both Advantage and Aspen and management noted particular strength in Q4 and a good trading environment in the current year. International Public Partnerships’ (INPP’s) FY23 results show that it continues to deliver consistent and predictable returns for investors, while delivering environmental and social benefits for the individuals and communities that are served by its assets. In our 15 March 2023 initiation, 'Pawnbroking royalty, with strong, profitable growth', and subsequent notes, we have highlighted the strong market for pawnbroking and why H&T, as the market leader, is uniquely placed to take advantage of these opportunities. These results reconfirmed both, with the pledge book up 28% and net pawnbroking revenue up 36%. Like many in the retail space, H&T faced the challenge of customers focusing on lower-value, lower-margin items in the key run-up to Christmas 2
