Shell has lost a legal case against climate activists in the Netherlands, and has been ordered to cut its emissions by 45% by 2030. This ruling, together with the Board reshuffling at Exxon, shows that there is a long way to go before integrated oil companies are considered green. The pressure on ESG will therefore remain even with the sector increasing its commitment to the energy transition.
