Avanti made good progress in the second six months of the current extended financial period. In addition, HYLAS 4 became commercially operational this month and there have been significant contract awards since launch, encouraging the belief that it should improve the financial outlook. The last reporting period reflected some uncertainty around the financial restructuring; however, this has been completed successfully. Avanti also received $20m cash from the Indonesian arbitration settlement in August. We await guidance for FY19 trading, including possible modest financing needs, before restoring forecasts.

The successful restructuring and launch of Hylas-4 has radically transformed Avanti. A new CEO is on-board and debt servicing is on a manageable footing. A new strategy will shortly be in place and early benefits are visible in the recent contract win with Viasat. We withdraw our forecasts until we have greater clarity on this strategy but continue to see a time soon when Avanti fully recovers its interest charge.
Avanti had a busy Q3 ahead of its April conversion to equity of its 2023 notes. Following the $20.1m settlement due from the government of Indonesia at the end of July, it expects to complete further lines of funding to complement the restructuring. Meanwhile, the successful launch of HYLAS 4 just after the Q3 end maintains the schedule to bring the satellite into operational service towards the end of July 2018, thus significantly increasing the capacity of the fleet. The removal of financial constraint should support the company as it refines and implements its new strategy.

The proposed restructuring of Avanti’s capital structure through a debt for equity swap will leave the company on a much firmer financial footing. Annual interest payments are expected to fall by over 70% and the bondholders have taken a major haircut. A more sustainable balance sheet should help improve Avanti’s ability to win new business going forward.
The company has announced a proposed financial restructuring that should clear the way to resume more normal operations. FY17 results are still to be released, and are expected in January 2018. Until we have a more current financial base to work from, we are withdrawing our forecasts. That is not to say that existing shareholders may not finally benefit from the restructuring. In our opinion, greater risk lies with the proposals not proceeding. The debt for equity swap, interest savings and discount being assumed by the bondholders should provide a solid foundation for Avanti to execute its strategy, with an improved prospect for equity holders.

The company has announced a further positive financing development with the securing of $100m of Super Senior Debt with a coupon of 7.5% that provides a significant reduction in interest payable on around 10% of outstanding gross debt. The recent trading updates are less positive and we have reduced our expectations accordingly. In addition, we still await a launch date for HYLAS 4 which is a crucial factor in attaining the required revenue and cash flow development. The fair value for the equity falls to 93p from 109p previously with our longer-term assumptions unaltered.
The deal will see Avanti deploy capacity from its HYLAS fleet to a new customer in EMEA.

Following its successful refinancing in January, Avanti is gathering momentum once again. It has today announced a very significant partnership for sub-Saharan Africa connectivity with Millicom, a top three player in the African telecom market. Avanti is not only to provide 4G backhaul services via its satellite network to improve access in remote and rural areas, but is also to build a new Gateway Earth Station in Senegal to enhance performance across the region. The site is to be co-located with Millicom operations and will service existing HYLAS 2 coverage as well as those from HYLAS 4. We await confirmation of a launch date in H217 for the new satellite, but today’s announcement appears to confirm Avanti’s Ka-band technology remains at the forefront of satellite connectivity.

Bigblu Broadband has today announced the sale of its UK and European satellite broadband operations to Eutelsat for a maximum consideration of £39.3m, with £37.8m payable in cash upon completion. This represents 7.0x FY19 EBITDA of £5.6m for the sale assets, and values the assets ahead of other UK telecom and satellite peers on c6x EV/EBITDA. BBB intends to use the proceeds to reduce its net debt, and evaluate opportunities to enhance shareholder value that could include shareholder returns. In this report we lay out the investment case for BBB’s continuing operations (UK fixed wireless/Quickline, Australia, and Nordics), and introduce conservative forecasts for the continuing group that do not include tender wins for BBB’s Quickline division. This still leads us to expect FY21 organic revenue growth of +3% and EBITDA growth of +9% that compares to 12-month forward EBITDA growth for peers in Managed Services & Telecoms, and the finnCap Next 50, of +3% and +7% respectively. Combined with a net cash position and 2% EFCF yield in FY21, BBB looks undervalued on 7x 12-month forward EV/EBITDA (Managed Services & Telecoms peers 11x, fc Next 50 16x), and we reiterate our target price of 155p based on 12x FY21 EV/EBITDA.

Both Q1 revenues and EBITDA were down by 7% yoy with a COVID-19 impact a little bit more significant than the average for telcos.
The group is currently investing heavily in its networks and one day this will pay off, although for the moment we are still waiting for a…revenue stabilisation and COVID-19 won’t help matters in 2020/21. We maintain, however, our Buy opinion: now the dividend has been cut, BT does not deserve such a low price.

An expected resilience to the COVID-19 negative impacts in Q1. The group can indeed congratulate itself on having strengthened in recent years its fixed activities: in Germany, which represents 40% of Vodafone’s activities in Europe, service revenues were flat yoy in Q1.
The monetisation of its infrastructure assets is continuing and, given the slight growth that the group could offer in the coming years, we maintain our Buy on the stock.

Bigblu Broadband (BBB) has reported a strong set of FY19 results that demonstrate strong organic growth, and are in line to ahead of the previous consensus estimates. This establishes a strong foundation for BBB’s future growth, and we expect that BBB will see revenue, EBITDA, and EPS growth in FY20 and FY21 despite the uncertainty caused by Coronavirus. This reflects that BBB has a robust and resilient investment case, which we explain in depth in this report. We consequently believe that BBB is undervalued on 12m fwd multiples of 5x EV/EBITDA and 7x adj P/E, and initiate with a TP of 155p or 15x FY21 adj EPS.
We highlight the strong Workday numbers overnight which provides cause for enthusiasm for growth equities, the SaaS software sector and most specifically within AIM, could augur well for Kainos, given their close partnership on consulting and implementation. Beyond the beat, most noteworthy comment was that management saw no impact from Brexit as yet nor the trade tensions in the US and China. With enviable growth rates of 32% in the quarter, we highlight few names in AIM such as CloudCall* offer such compelling opportunity.

A poor Q2 performance for Telefonica although this had been expected given, in particular, the double penalty linked to the South American currency weakness vs the Euro (in particular the Brazilain Real) during the pandemic.
For 2020 Telefónica nonetheless remains on track to deliver a slightly negative to flat EBITDA-capex yoy in organic terms but… at constant currency. The key point thus remains that the 2020 dividend is confirmed at €0.40.

In 2020, despite the COVID-19 impact, revenue should decrease by around 2.5% yoy organically. Beyond the pandemic crisis, Millicom remains an interesting ‘growth’ story (further boosted by acquisitions) in a sector which experiences none. Management’s medium-term goal (confirmed after the Q2 release) is indeed to deliver mid single-digit organic service revenue growth and mid-to-high single-digit organic EBITDA growth.
We remain at Buy on the stock.

Stripe Inc said on Thursday it is raising $250 million in its latest funding round, which values the payments start-up at $35 billion, a dramatic 56% surge from a previous valuation at the start of the year. The Board has finally decided to suspend its final dividend for 2019/20 and all dividends for 2020/21. This move is structural and not really linked to the Covid19 crisis in that it is to invest in FTTP and 5G, and to fund a major new 5-year modernisation programme.
These announcements are a first buy signal although the recovery will take time and the group must now stabilize its revenues which will not be easy given the Covid19 pandemic context.

Quite a good Q4 supported by improving commercial momentum in Europe. The annual EBITDA grew eventually by 2.6% yoy reflecting the cost programme’s success.
The €0.09 dividend is maintained.
Vodafone is more highly indebted after its deal with Liberty-Global, but its dividend (cut last year) seems now more in harmony with its balance sheet. Besides, the monetisation of its infrastructure is continuing. Given therefore the slight growth Vodafone should offer in the coming years, we maintain our Buy recommendation on the stock.
