Nigel Newton, chief executive of Bloomsbury Publishing PLC (LSE:BMY) joins Proactive London presenter Katie Pilbeam to talk about his Christmas stocking fillers for 2021.
His first pick is 'Afterlives' the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature 2021 by Abdulrazak Gurnah. Described by The Telegraph as 'exquisite' and 'effortlessly compelling storytelling ... You forget that you are reading fiction, it feels so real' by Leila Aboulela.
Newton's second pick is 'Piranesi' by Susanna Clarke. A New York Times Bestseller, Winner of the Women's Prize for Fiction and a World Fantasy Awards Finalist.
His third pick is 'Dishoom: From Bombay with Love', by Shamil Thakrar, Kavi Thakrar and Naved Nasir. All three share their secrets to their much sought-after Bombay comfort food such as the bacon naan roll, black daal and okra fries.
Up next it's Katies' mum's favourite chef - 'Gino’s Italian Family Adventure'. In his new book, Gino shares over 80 tried and tested recipes that work for busy families, ranging from quick weeknight one-pot meals to comforting roasts to decadent desserts – and even the dinners to make when the kids are out!
The fifth is the Harry Potter boxset, put together twenty four years since the first book was published by Newton's publishing house. Containing all seven novels from J.K. Rowling's classic series in a spectacular alternating colour scheme, with cover artwork and illustrations by artistic wizard and Kate Greenaway Medal winner Levi Pinfold.
And the bonus book chosen by Newton is New York Times bestseller and winner of the 2021 Financial Times & McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award. 'This Is How They Tell Me the World Ends: The Cyberweapons Arms Race'.
