Healthy capital access for financial companies amid raising economic and political uncertainty. In this issue of the finn-ancial Times, we look at the activity data from January 2016 to March 2019 for monthly equity raisings in the financial sector in both the UK public and private market. The period we look at has been characterised by both significant political turmoil and a deteriorating macroeconomic outlook, with both factors contributing to the wider financial sector underperforming the total market by around 15% in the period. Under these conditions, it would be natural to expect a significant fall in capital-raising in the financial sector. However, activity in both the public and private markets has been strong throughout the period, with average quarterly raisings in the public market increasing around 55% from the first half of the period to the second half and activity in the private market increasing more than 200%.
