Going cold turkey is hard. Plastics are the fastest-growing group of bulk materials, with global production increasing more than tenfold since 1970 to account for 14% of global oil demand (13 mmbpd). They are also expected to be a key driver for future oil demand growth, representing more than a third. However, there is a growing awareness of and backlash to the environmental damage plastic waste is causing. Weaning us off this addiction will take time and a lot of effort.
