City of London Investment Group (“CLIG”) grew FuM by 3% during Q3. There were some marginal net inflows from new investment. The key driver of FuM growth was investment performance. Whilst positive, investment performance lagged the group’s key benchmark by c.3% as discounts on closed-end funds widened and increased exposure to Small Cap (via closed end funds) weighed on performance. The dividend will remain a key valuation metric for CLIG. The board has elected not to state an intention with regard to the final dividend and will indicate the payout at the Q4 update on 18th July. If the 16p final payout is maintained, this will represent a 5% yield in isolation.
