In its September quarterly report, BCI reported that the definitive feasibility study (DFS) on the Mardie salt and potash project was 75% complete as at end-September 2019, with the expectation that it will be completed in Q1 CY20. In the meantime, the company is embarking on construction of a large-scale trial pond programme to test the envisaged materials and methods of construction and thereby substantially mitigate future construction risk.
On 14 June, BCI announced that its EBITDA guidance from Iron Valley for FY19 is now right at the top of the range of prior expectations. During the first nine months of the year, BCI’s EBITDA from Iron Valley was A$6.0m from 5.5Mt of material shipped (ie A$1.09 per tonne). In the light of the continued strength of the iron ore price in the aftermath of the Brazilian tailings dams’ disasters, it has now revised its guidance for the full year from A$6–12m to A$11–12m (or c A$1.57 per tonne, given
On 17 May BCI announced the results of its PFS optimisation study at its Mardie salt and potash project in north-western Australia. Relative to its earlier PFS study (the results of which were announced in June 2018), the principal differences are an increase in salt and sulphate of potash (SOP) production, by 14.3% and 33.3% respectively, and the development of a dedicated port at the Mardie site. While this has increased the project’s capex estimate by 48.7% to A$498m, it has increased its pre
BCI Minerals reported a c 33.3% increase in royalty EBITDA during Q3 from operations at Iron Valley under the influence of higher iron ore prices in the aftermath of Vale’s Feijao tailings dam disaster in January and the supply disruptions to exports from north-western Australia occasioned by a trio of cyclones in the region. Notwithstanding the disruptions, shipments from Iron Valley were steady at 1.8Mt (cf Edison’s prior estimate of 7.5Mt for FY19, or 1.875Mt per quarter) – albeit comprising
BCI Minerals (BCI) has two major assets in Western Australia, namely its 100%-owned Mardie salt and potash project and a royalty interest in a producing iron ore mine (Iron Valley). Positive cash flow from the latter, in conjunction with c A$37m in cash, is being deployed to develop the former. Notwithstanding tough conditions in the iron ore market, our base case valuation of BCI is more than double its share price.

Despite a mixed 2021 – with Kounrad once again beating guidance but Sasa slightly missing targets owing to challenging ground conditions and lower grades – CAML enters 2022 in fine fettle with a strong balance sheet and all three of its metal products riding high. We are pleased to hear that the recent unrest in Kazakhstan has not impacted operations at Kounrad, and are encouraged that the transition to cut-and-fill mining at Sasa remains on schedule (which should see a much more stable operatin

Central Asia Metals (CAML LN) announced Q4 2021 copper output of 4.1kt, up 9% YoY and down 11% QoQ from a record Q3. Full year copper output was therefore 14kt, up 1% YoY. This underpins our record earnings forecast and we expect full year group EBITDA of US$138m. At Sasa, zinc and lead output were both down in the quarter meaning that full year output was modestly below guidance. Q4 zinc output of 5.1kt and lead production of 6.5kt were down 12% and 13% YoY respectively and 11% and 7% QoQ. Full
Phoenix copper today announces it has purchased the remainder of the production royalty over the Empire property (operated by Konnex Resources which is owned 80% by Phoenix Copper). It has purchased the remaining 1.25% Net Smelter Royalty (NSR) from Honolulu Corp for $0.45m. This is in addition to the 1.25% of the royalty from Honolulu it previously purchased (27.10.2021) as well as 1% of the 2.5% NSR payable to Mackay LLC for a total consideration in October 2021 of $1.3m. $0.8m has been pai

Phoenix copper today announces an update to its exploration drilling programme from Red Star in Idaho, adjacent to the Empire open pit resource. Polymetallic mineralisation was intersected in all of the seven RC holes drilled in late 2021 (876m) as Phoenix tried to delineate the boundaries of the magnetic zones. Notable intersections (not true width) were drill hole RS21-01 with 27.4m grading 0.7% copper, 0.8g/t gold and 39g/t silver from 38m depth, and drill hole RS21-02 with 36.6m grading 0.

• Oil production has been averaging ~20,000 bb/d since January 12, 2022 with export routes, including the Northern Peruvian Pipeline, fully functional. From 16/12/2021 until 12/01/2022, production was constrained to ~5 mbbl/d to manage storage capacity and barge availability due to pump station 1 bottlenecks. This resulted in 4Q21 production of 10,147 bbl/d, below our expectations of 11,500 bbl/d. All these issues have now been resolved.

We believe the narrative for the UK equity market remains very good. Some inflation appears embedded in markets and economic growth seems robust. We saw investors show caution into the end of 2021 and so have cash to deploy in our view. This has been corroborated by investor feedback we’ve had already this year. The UK equity market is materially cheaper than global equities on a relative basis so asset allocators have to be looking at UK equities while UK 2022 GDP growth is likely the best of t
