Company Information: The Biotech Growth Trust (BIOG) was launched in 1997 and is listed on the Main Market of the LSE. The trust is just over £300m in size and is managed by Geoff Hsu and Josh Golomb at OrbiMed Capital, which is a global healthcare specialist investor with more than $17bn of assets under management. BIOG’s strategy favours emerging (smaller-cap) over large-cap biotech companies. This strategy has proved successful over the longer term, but this was detrimental to the trust’s performance between Q121 and Q323. Performance YTD has improved and BIOG is again benefitting from the improved performance of smaller biotech companies, the pace of scientific innovation and increased M&A in the sector.

Geoff Hsu, Partner: OrbiMed Capital LLC
Geoff is a General Partner at OrbiMed and joined the firm in 2002. He has been a Portfolio Manager since 2005 and helps lead the public equity team’s biotech and emerging markets efforts. Prior to joining OrbiMed, Geoff worked as a financial analyst in the healthcare investment banking group at Lehman Brothers. He received his A.B. degree summa cum laude from Harvard University and holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. Prior to business school, Geoff spent two years studying medicine at Harvard Medical School.
