Carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies are no longer optional if we want to prevent dangerous global warming. While some capacity already exists mainly in nature-based solutions these cannot continue to sequester carbon indefinitely and we need to double capacity by 2030. We see bioenergy, carbon capture and storage (BECCS) and biochar as the key options with both needed given the scale required. The COP29 progress on a global carbon market potentially adds further demand.
