Island Pharmaceuticals Ltd (ASX:ILA) is an antiviral therapeutics company targeting infectious diseases. The company announced on 9 March 2026 a strategic collaboration with Burnet Institute to expand development pathways for ISLA-101 and Galidesivir. The company is looking to expand the indications where its drugs may show efficacy, including measles, chikungunya and Ross River virus. These indications have been chosen by the company to explore as they align with national stockpile, biodefence and public health frameworks. The work will be undertaken by Dr Johanna Fraser, Head of Burnet Institute’s Arbovirology Working Group; she is also the co-lead inventor of ISLA-101 and has undertaken extensive preclinical research involving the molecule. Dr Fraser has recently secured a three-year grant from the Australian Government’s National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) for $780,000+ – this will contribute to advance clinical work.
