Biogas investment increased sixfold between 2021 and 2022 and has held at these higher levels since, with 2024 expected to see continued high investment. This has been driven by material improvements in supportive policies around the world creating strong investment opportunities. Biogas is increasingly seen as a major solution to decarbonisation in hard to abate sectors, potentially delivering over 10% of all GHG savings in a net zero outcome. This is being supported by an improved economic case with the increased valorisation of anaerobic digestion biproducts. Despite the recent growth in investment this remains an underappreciated area and opportunities remain.
