What happened?
We published a note after the first attack last week, OIL and GAS: Israel strikes Iranian nuclear sites, which includes a high level summary of Iran''s oil and gas assets and the oil and gas companies'' Middle East exposures. We are available to chat this week if you''d like to book a meeting.
Bombardments continued over the weekend with no signs of easing. Israel continues to target Iran infrastructure and seems to have maintained material air superiority. Iranian missile attacks have been getting through Israeli defences causing damage to buildings and some civilian casualties.
Although we have not seen any explicit threats to upstream energy infrastructure, a processing facility on the South Pars field was hit, a fire broke out at the Fajr Jam gas plant and there were reports of fires at depots by the Shahran oil field. Chevron has shut gas production in Israel.
Iran''s Atomic Energy Organisation said that there had been some radiation and chemical containment at the nuclear site at Natanz but Fordow was largely undamaged. The IDF said that it had damaged an underground facility at Natanz.
Key rhetoric:
. Israel''s Defense Minister (Israel Katz) said that Israel''s targets now included the ''regime in Tehran''
. Israel''s national security adviser (Tazahi Hanegbi) said ''Iran''s nuclear programme cannot be completely destroyed by means of a military campaign''
. An Israeli military official said the attacks could last for as long as two weeks.
. Trump - ''this war in Israel-Iran should end'' and that ''Iran and Israel should make a deal and will make a deal'' but the two sides may need to ''fight it out'' before they''re ready to talk about a peace deal. He said the US had ''Nothing to do with the attack on Iran'' but that if ''we are attacked in any way, shape or form by Iran, the full strength and might of the US Armed Forces will come down on you at levels never seen before.''
